The Boulder Chorale’s diversity concerts are making a big splash, called “the most innovative choral programming in the country.”
In this concert, we find new ways for our western chorus to meet eastern music. We highlight music of Middle Eastern and Northern African countries, which are some of the richest sounds in the world. (Have you ever heard an oud played? It’s magic!).
We will feature songs by the Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, of whom Omar Sharif said, “She is born again every morning in the heart of 120 million beings. In the east a day without Umm Kulthum would have no color.” You’ll hear gorgeous new arrangements just for the Boulder Chorale by Adam Waite which include music from Israel, Afghanistan, Spain, Morocco, and Syria. Even Sting makes an appearance with A Thousand Years.
We are joined by percussionist David Hinojosa and a group of musicians from around the world. Join us for this entirely unique concert experience!
PRE-CONCERT TALK 3:30 PM Dr. Vicki Burrichter will talk some of the musicians about Arabic music and the challenges of translating it for a western chorus.
This concert will also be livestreamed. Tickets below.
